halloween candy

What's the etiquette on giving them to children ? How many per kid ? I don't know if I bought too little ...

Depends on the size of the candy. Mini-chocolate bars, Smarties, Glosettes, Twizzlers, etc - just one pack is good. Little things like toffees, caramels - three minimum.

Edit - Give the little kids extra - the parents gotta snack too. 🙂

one per kid if you have lots of trick-or-treaters...but in my neighborhood we have zero kids, so the few that do come we let them take as many as they want (as long as its not the whole bowl)

1 per kid. If it's neighbor kids you like or relatives, toss in a couple more. If you bought too little, you turn the lights out and kids stop coming to your door. Remember that you don't owe anyone anything, give out what you want and stop when you want, you're not required to have enough candy to cover every kid on earth.

What's important is to buy only candy that YOU like. That way if it rains or is really cold and the turnout is low, your leftovers are the things you eat. There's nothing worse than giving out all your Snickers and getting stuck with all those darned Milk Duds.

If your costume is awesome, you get 3.
If your costume is fair, you get 2.
If your costume just plain sucks, you get 1... and 30 seconds to get the hell off my porch.

If your costume is not creative and you spent more time thinking about what the hell you are calling a costume that consists of you throwing on a bunch of dumb clothes, then I make you work to get anything. This usually only goes for idiots in Junior High/High School that go as lame things like "Pajama Girl" and "Football fan boy with a knife"

My Friend's family has the same problem with no kids... well.. the kids are in the area, they just never visit their house, so his mom buys about 20 REGULAR SIZED candy bars, and bag of back-up candy just in case.

Usually they end up with 5-8 of the candy bars and the bag is untouched.

Yeah, but don't do it infront of a bunch of kids all dressed up if one is really creative. Then the rest will say we have to be fair a bunch of other stuff. Either makes bags or just give 2 or 3 pieces to each.

Like hell. Just flat out say "Your costume rocks. You get 3."

That'll teach those kids to do it right, or don't do it at all.

You like making kids cry, don't you ? 😉

I don't get many kids where I live. I like to get the full-sized candy bars. You can usually get them at the grocery store around Halloween for 25¢/ea. I usually get about $10 worth (40 bars), and end up taking 30 to work the next day, to hand out to get rid of them. Kids love the large bars, instead of those cheapo "fun sized" ones. What's so fun about a tiny candy bar?

Yeah, but I've actually had a couple of kids say something along the lines of "Remember me, I was the (crappy costume) last year? Do I get 3 this year?" And their costumes, in fact, rocked.

I unwrap all the candies into a bowl and let them pick out as many as they want.
I was expecting an evil grin at the end of this sentence...

1 can of Miller High Life per kid

Older kids can handle 2 cans, or at least one bottle of a good beer.

I like to give those with crappy costumes the small pony bottles of high life, I think they are only seven ounces

I go to GNC or Rite Aid whichever is cheaper buy like two bags of assorted candy.

oh and i just grab some and stick em in the bag. so prob like 3-4 to each kid.
