We have to pick among the goofiest dimwits for president in 2016 and you guys are worried about some asteroid, aliens and zombies?

An asteroid that was discovered just two weeks ago is expected to make its nearest pass to Earth on Halloween and will be closer to our planet than any other object since 2006.

Closer than the one that exploded over Russia a year or so ago? I don't think so.

They probably meant closer than any object that passed by. Excluding those that hit us directly. There are small meteors striking our atmosphere all the time. The Perseid meat eater showers come to mind.

Maybe the one over Chelyabinsk was too small to be an official "object". Despite the size of the boom it was a pretty small rock and we're hit by a lot of tiny stuff every year. This one is a hell of a lot bigger.

Well, a quick look shows there's been 3 other closer ones in the last month but they've been a lot smaller in size than this one.

Also the Orionids are peaking tonight, debris from Halley's Comet. Not a great meteor shower but if your up early... look up.
