________

Hall of Fame manager Sparky Anderson has been placed in hospice care at his home in Thousands Oaks, Calif. for complications resulting from dementia, his family announced in a statement today.
The family said they appreciate the support from fans and friends.
Anderson, 76, won the World Series with the Reds in 1975 and '76 and again with the Tigers in 1984. He compiled a career record of 2,194-1,834 and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2000.
"We are very sad to hear the news of Sparky's failing health," Reds president Robert Castellini said in a statement. "Every day here we are reminded of his contribution to the success of this proud franchise. The Reds' family offers its prayers and support to Sparky and his family during this difficult time."
