I liked the original Tribes better myself. You can use 3rd person or 1st person views in T1 and T2, so you can't technically call it a pure fps.
As for the RTCW or HL game. It's a tough choice. Some people have probably been taking into account all the MODs, and not to mention fond memorys they have of HL.
What if Half-life never had any MODs or add-ons. Meaning no Counter-strike, no Opposing Force, no Team Fortress Classic, ect.
All those things were never part of the original Half-life game and are not Half-life. So they can't be used for judgement.
Would HL even still be remembered if there had been no "add-ons" to it?
So the question is would you still choose a 3 year old game, compared to a game with recent technology and graphics as being better?
Thats up to the user I guess.
You have to take many other things than graphics into account of course, such as, Storyline, re-playability, and just how damn fun it is to play.
I agree that Half-life is an original, a pioneer, and classic. It's old though, the graphics grey, the storyline stale, and the re-playability almost doesn't exist for me. So I would have to say that RTCW is better by default.
People learn, technology advances, and players get bored of playing the same game over and over again.
So most aspects of a newer game will almost certainly be better to any user.
