HalfLife 2 woes

Ok, this is ticking me off. Ever since I reached Area 17 (the place right after you get the car). The game just keeps crashing... I either get a BSOD, the graphics go bad, or I get a reallly bad stuttering problem. I can hardly play a couple of minutes of the game now before it crashes... wth?

512 MB Ram
GeForce 4 Ti 4200 64 MB
Biostar M7VIB Mobo
