Halflife 2 Cds

My friend has a HL2 Bronze coupon that enitles him to play HL2 and CS:Source The problem is that he is on internet slightly faster than dialup so its going to take him forever to download 4GB+ through stream. My question is, if I copy my 5 HL2 CDs and he uses his coupon code, will it allow him to install\register the game ? Or is some protection on the cds that will detect that they are copies and not let him install even though he has a valid code ?

Anyone try this yet ?
