Hi ,

I installed Halflife 2 the other day and had no probleams , I bought my version on CD in town.

I have been messing around with the config files and stuff and want to do a fresh install , i wondered do you think i would have any problems with installing it again a second time on the same machine ?

I was reading in a PC mag that i buy , that a lot of people are having major difficulty installing and registering because of the STEAM system .

Also can i install Halflife2 on my secondary maching so my brother can play me online ? or would i need to buy a second copy of Counter Strike ?

BTW : Im from Scotland , and i got the EU version with only 1 DVD and a box , nuthing else no Instruction booklet :(

I haven't read about people having trouble installing since the rush and overload on steam the first few days around 11/16 when the game was first released and available for authentication.
So I wouldn't worry about uninstalling/reinstalling any number of times.

And yes, we've discussed here previously how you could install one copy of the game on each of your 20 computers you might have at home using your one steam account and all those comps could play together on a LAN in offline mode. Perfectly legal.

And it's much easier to do now as well since the last patch enabled retail copies of the game to run without needing the CD (DVD) in the drive.

You won't have any problems installing again on the same computer. I did that and there was no problem. All you will need is your steam account name and password.

Just to clarify, yes, you can run as many copies in a LAN OFFLINE as you like, but in you post you said play ONLINE, and that means you need to buy a copy for each computer going online at the same time.

Yeah sorry i meant LAN , thats great that was one of the main reasons that i bought the game .:)

I was reading an article in the UK magazine MicroMart this is what it said :-

MicroMart Issue 828 P70

"The controversial activation system that valve have attached to Halflife 2 has apparently stopped 20,000 people from playing the game. The accounts of the individuals were shut after the firm found evidence that the copies of the game had been obtained from less-than-legal sources"

Do you know if that was genuine users using pirated software or a mistake ?

If it was genuine pireted software , then it seems that STEAM is working we'll , also i a number of other companys have expressed interest in using a similar system.

I hope this security senario dosent get out of hand because it's usually the honest users that bare the brunt of the tight security mesures and Pirate software makers just code a new hack to bypass.
