With that note as well will Counter strike work?? I am redoing my computer this weekend and was curious if I got it if it would work!

The copy I picked up at CompUSA this week for $8 seems to work just fine under W2K Pro. Being only an occasional gamer, however, I couldn't give you a good idea how fast or slow it was performing.

Just a quick note regarding Win2k, Half Life and their combination with a Via chipset. If you do run this combination, make sure to update your Windows 2000 box with the Via chipset patch (Windows Update on your Start menu should do the trick).

I as well as many others experienced problems playing over the net where you could be walking forward and then suddnely, you would be walking to side or looking another way with a different weapon selected. The Via chipset patch from MS appears to have alleviated this problem for myself and my friends.

I have Halflife and run internet games of TFC and Couterstrike with no problems on my Windows 2000 machine.

Make sure you've got the latest drivers. Try direct3d, openGL, and then Glide... see which works better or at all.

I had a big problem with locking up on my Via KX133 and Win2k pro. I posted in GH about it and the pointed to me a nice AGP patch that cleared that up.

BTW jsm, its called lag 😉

I thought it was lag as well, so I tested it out by playing on my 15 computer LAN during a LAN party I was having.

My cousin who also ran an AMD based machine with Win2k also had the same issues - even during the aforementioned LAN party. My network is 100 Base TX running in 3Com 3300 switches. After that test, I ruled out lag. After all, this issue did not happen on my other AMD boxes that were running WinME or on my Intel boxes running Win2k.
