Last week my W-2 arrived ripped in half, so instead of the normal 4 copies only two were delivered. My employer sent me a new one so no problem there, but I am a little concerned because my name, address, and SSN were on the piece that went missing.

I am hopeful that it just was eaten by a sorting machine in the postal system somewhere, but the more suspicious side of me wonders if someone didn't steal it.

I was thinking of signing up for lifelock or a similar service for 3-6 months just in case. What does ATOT think? Am I being unreasonable in doing something like that?

Thanks.

I've heard a few not so great things about lifelock. You may be better signing up for something through your bank or credit card.

My bet is that you're ok. If somebody was going to steal your W2 I would think they'd just take the whole thing.
