Half Mast?

This has been nagging at me for awhile - I know that after former president ford passed away, the flag was lowered to half-mast. But it's been a couple weeks and a lot of the places I pass on my drive in to work still have the flag at half-mast. Is there some sort of rule of etiquette that says how long you're supposed to leave the flag at half mast for?

When Dubya dies, and I'm president, I'll order all flags to be at DOUBLE MAST. They must be flown in the air like kites.

Well, I've been half-mast ever since the Beyonce appearance at the Golden Globes....

EDIT: Damn! ebay beat me to it. 😉

30 days is standard for presidents

U.S. Code provides that the Flag of the United States is to be flown at half-staff in following circumstances:

For thirty days after the death of a current or former President.
For ten days after the death the current Vice-President, Chief Justice, or Speaker of the House of Representatives.
From the day of death until interment of an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, a Secretary of an executive or military department, a former Vice President, or the Governor of a State, territory, or possession
On the day of death and the following day for a Member of Congress- i.e. a Senator, a Representative, a Delegate, or the Resident Commissioner from Puerto Rico.
On Memorial Day until noon
