I dont have a dvd player, but is it possible to change it to cd format so it works for me when I buy a dvd version of HL2?

Doesnt matter, will get the cd version, somewhere... doubt it can be read without a dvd player.

Here in the US, it was actually more difficult/expensive to get the DVD version (I paid $100 for the CE version).

Surely someone is selling the cd version in Europe?

Alternatively, as the guy above said, just buy it online. If you have broadband, it's very convenient to download no (cd/dvd involved)...

I have 56k and no DVD player, so my only real option is CD... they are very rare here apparently.

If you could afford HL2, you can afford a DVD-ROMr, since it should be like half the price of HL2...

OK , here's an option:
Perhaps you have a friend with a DVD drive and a cd burner.

He can install the game, using your email address and other info at registration. Then he can "back up" the installation to cd, burn to cd and turn everything over to you.

Steam makes it easy to back up your installation to either hard drive, cd or dvd.

yeah, last time i tried to back up my data, it didn't work...you can actually get a file splitter and split the files onto cds (takes around 7 cds) and then put them together in the right spot on your computer

you can get HL2 on newegg (cd) for like...$35...just do that.
