Half-Life + Windows 2000 + Vortex II latest drivers = No sound. Buggy drivers or DirectX?

Basically, see the subject.
I have a relatively fresh install of Windows 2000 w/ the latest Betas from Aureal. I go into Half-Life, and there is no sound. I come back to Windows, and MP3s, etc., don't play. I need to reboot.

Is this a known issue or what? Please don't tell me "Aureal SUCKS GET SBLIVE" because if I had the money, I would...

Bump.

I am really curious about this also. The drivers for my VortexII are the only thing holding me from Win2k.

Well, here's an update.

The sound works in Unreal Tournament (also uses DirectX for sound).
They pass and work in the DXDiag test for Win2K.

Don't work in HL though.

The drivers are hard to install, and they are decent. The installation process is very involved but there are detailed directions. The playback (MP3, etc.) seems to be more affected by hard disk accesses than they are in Win98. A3D works, in the demos at least, I haven't tried it to a game. The HL engine just doesn't want ot work w/ them.

Hi Elemental!

If you dont remember me, im that annoying voice on ICQ that was always buggin you! 🙂

Still playing D3?

Anyway.. As of now, gaming really isnt much of an issue. I of course would like my games to run, like anyone, but Im more into 3D Modeling/Graphics/Web design. I also MUST have music running while working 🙂 So MP3's are very important. And of course, Win2K is very important. It would be nice to be able to have 3D Studio, and Photoshop open at the same time. While running ICQ/Winamp.

Plus, I run a small shoutcast station off of my system, so again, MP3's are very important. SBlive just isnt up to the standards I need.

<- that sucks!!!...shouldn't be hard it's a damn soundcard...way to go vortex!!

AoD 😉

If it weren't for CL driving Aureal into the ground, Aureal would have proper drivers for Win2K available, as well as some kick ass new cards.....alas 🙁.
