I have been playing CS and TF for a while now and I realized that I never played the HL original's single player mode. Is it worth playing it? I can't touch HL2 because my computer = teh suck.

Let me try to be a little more constructive than the previous post. Yes, its a great game Jassi. Do you already own the game? If you do, be sure you DL the high definition pack so it looks it best, and then patch it too.

It a great game, but it does show its age a little in the GFX dept. But, besides all that, the game itself is awesome! :)

Yea, I have the disk somewhere but I think its pretty old and devoid of all the ad-ons. I never knew there was a HD pack. Also, I use a p3 866 MHz and a 64mb 440mx (very slow compared to your new rig ;) ). Besides the HD pack, should I get anything else (ad-ons etc. ) to make gameplay/ graphics better?

Thanks for your help warcrow.

The game with the HD pack should run great even on that system. I played it when it first came out on a K6-2 350Mhz with 64mb of RAM and a 16mb Voodoo Banshee. :)

There's not much you can do to make the graphics better, as that would require a total upgrade of all the textures. The HD pack does help, but the graphics really aren't that bad (think Quake 2) and the gameplay is excellent.

I recently played through all 3 HL1 campaigns (original, Opposing Force, and Blue Shift) again a few months ago. Even now, I still enjoy replaying the game and the enemy AI was amazing for its time.

Sweetness :) Thanks, now all I need to do is find my disk.

BlueWeasel - I have an idea of what the original campaign was about, what did the OF and BS ad-on add to the single player gameplay?

In OF, you play one of the soldiers trying to capture Gordon Freeman, while in BS, your role becomes that of Barney, one of the security guards.

definitely try it out - it was revolutionary when it came out, and it's still loads of fun

Like Blue said, the expansion packs are good as well, althought I thought Op Force ws much much better than Blue shift. Still, give them a run. They're both real cheap these days. :)

Yeah, Blue Shift was the shortest and least fun of the three, but still fun to play. FYI, if you can find Blue Shift for cheap, it includes the High Definition pack on the CD.

Hell yes, Half Life 1 rules, far better than Half Life 2 (should I run away and hide now?).
