A bit more credible than just some retailier, Vivendi Universal and Sierra are the publishers. No official word on the HL2 site.

What is Half Life 2? I thought that was released in Russia last year as a special Half Life 3 Beta/Retail test kit to confirm the maretability of selling non existent software for 50.00 a pop

There is no answer to that question, at least at this time. Other games will be released that will most likely be excellent...such as Doom3, STALKER, Rome: Total War, and etc... Wondering and guessing about a HL2 release date is quite futile. I know it sucks, but that is the way it is. )

My best guess would be it would be free as long as you own HL2. I mean, wasn't the original CS free as long as you own HL1? I would think the updated CS would be free as well.

I saw the trailer from E3 and at the end they showed some of the new CS. It looked pretty awesome!

Um there is good evidence to support that release date evidenced from the confidence that retailers both online and B&M have exhibited in announcing that release date. Of course it would be better to get an official response from id or activision.

The August 3rd date is not official until id says it is. As it stands, it's just as confirmed as the April 15th date that GameSpot had confirmed by some executive a while ago. The more time goes on the more I think that was just a scam to get people to pre-order at GameStop and EBGames (I think this was the other retailer). With that said, I pre-ordered both two days ago anyways.
