Saw today the Half-life Platinum Collection at Staples. Rang at $0.01. The manager didn't seem very happy, but sold it to me at this price. YMMV

The Half-life Platinum Collection includes: Half-life, the two expansion packs, Team Fortress, and Counter-Strike (five games in total).

If it rang up at a penny means it was a disposal item that was left out on the shelf. The store just forgot to pull the title and dispose of it. Good luck

What do you mean by "disposal item"? Are they supposed to destroy the products rather than sell them to people?

I'm guessing it means its something that wasn't selling anymore...

Manuf. gives the company credit and they throw the product away.

This price is in the Staples computers, so IF your store has it, it WILL ring at $0.01. However, this item apparently has been on clearance forever, so it's hard to find.

When it rings up at $0.01 the clerk is always instructed by the manager to ring it back up at the last "marked price." So sometimes you S.O.L. even if it rings up for a penny. It depends on the day or mood the manager or clerk is in. Sometimes, they will even say "can't sell this to you" and then take it off the shelf (and later buy it themselves).

Its entirely situational.

It's a disposal item. It cannot be sold according to Staples HQ. It's supposed to have been destroyed. Even if it rings up as a penny, it cannot be sold. It should have taken off the shelves.

Note: No, employees aren't even allowed to buy this at that price.

Haha, that won't even do you any good. We enjoy destroying the software *most of the time* other times we cry haha. But if we don't destroy it by hand, it's put in the bailer.

If you can find it, try buying a few other low cost clearance items that you can use with it so the clerk doesn't notice the 1c price. I saw one of these on the clearance table a few weeks ago but it was still marked ~$9.99 on the sticker. I think I'll stop by a few of my Staples to see if I can snag 1 or 2. Thanks, OP. :)

None at my local staples... in fact, they seem to have reduced the shelf space for software considerably since the last time I was in there. Down from maybe 3 aisles to 1.5.

Ohh, maybe in YOUR dumpster they do, but in our local one, it remains a free source of immeasurable PC hardware/software with nary a scratch. Its all in the timing, as you are racing the store employees to that hopper at a certain time each month ...

May the fastest diver win !!!

" Lets all jump in their dumpsters guys, lol. JK " I use to deliver to Staples. You wouldn't believe the things I saw in their trash can behind store while waiting.Sometimes they would purposely destroy merchandise to keep people from returning it(they said). Tons of older pens, xmas stationary, usable office chairs, plastic floor mats etc. People used to dive for it & then garage sale it.lol
