I remember way back in I believe was 99' a mod for Half-Life called Firearms. I was wondering what ever happened to that? I miss that old game and I played that even before I played CS for the first time.

Also, does anyone still play this online? I cant even seem to find the mod download for it.

It died, nothing could stand up to Counter-Strike, one of the most vibrant mod communities ever was overshadowed by a single mod.

Science and Industry
Natural Selection
Wasteland
The Opera
Firearms

Natural Selection is still going strong - there are usually several full servers.

Action Quake/Action Half Life was pretty cool

***THIS THREAD IS NOW ABOUT OLD KICK ARSE MODS***

They were making a Firearms 2 for Source but I'm not sure they are anymore. I don't think there was ever even a beta release.

Last post is from December 6, 2008 so I'd say the mod is very much alive and in production. I remember that game was the cause of many hours of procrastination in college. It looks pretty faithful to the original.

I LOVED Action Quake 2, I thought A:HL was a weak bastardization tho .. diving handcannon shots? Lame.

Very awesome. I always favored this game over CS back in the day. I did love DoD though.

What about Team Fortress Classic or Day of Defeat?

What about them? TFC predated CS's hayday and DoD could never hold a candle to CS, yea it had its dedicated crowd but it was nothing once compared to CS.

seems they are remaking the first version for source also

From what I understand, there is sort of a race between the two dev teams to get their games done because those who originally wanted to make firearms for the source engine differed in opinion. It looks like Firearms 2 is much further ahead in development, as they actually have some gameplay footage. Neither of the mods looks very polished though - one thing that jumps out at me is that most of their textures are poorly aligned. People would be surprised what a high-quality texture layout will do in terms of making a game look finished.

Take a look at the brick pattern on the slope for example, that just looks bad.

I think i read somewhere that they are making NS a stand alone game. Working on an engine.
