Half Life CS and WIN2k

Hmm..I seem to crash everytime the game finishes precaching for some reason...the console will start to lift up and the hang...the the same sound effect will play in loops...after about 2-4 mins.. HL will shut down and an error windows pops up..anyone have this kind of problems before? BTW where do i go to check the error logs again?

Win2k with Asus KT7...i just found out that quake3 and some other games load correctly, it seems that only HL crashes...but i have already reinstalled it a few times...

I just re-installed HL on my new W2K installation and windowsupdated it. Now HL won't launch. It says "Half-Life needs Service Pack 3" or something to that effect. What now? I am updating HL right now we'll see where that goes...
