Half Life and Windows XP

Hi, I have installed Half Lif eon XP Pro for the sole purpose to play CS. I have applied all the latest updates for HL and CS. However, when playing the keyboard and mouse response is appaling, and very erratic, sometimes the crosshairs will never move at all. Anything I can change in the registry or anything to alter this? been a big problem for a lot of XP users... personally, i fixed the problem by uninstally powertoys
