Last year, mentions of both Half-Life 3 and Left 4 Dead 3 were found in Valve documentation. Now it seems one former employee is confirming both games are in development.

Counter-Strike creator and former Valve employee Minh "Gooseman" Le has let slip that both Half-Life 3 and Left 4 Dead 3 are in development:

"I don't think I can talk about that, to be honest, but I think it's kind of public knowledge, that people know that it is being worked on," Le said of the long-fabled Half-Life 3, speaking on podcast goRGNtv. "I guess I could say that I did see something that looked kinda like in the Half-Life universe. And I mean it wouldn't surprise anyone if I said they're doing it, they're working on it, yeah. So to go on a limb I'd say I did see some concept art for Half-Life 3."

Le confessed to being "really excited" about a new, unannounced entry in the Left 4 Dead series. "I saw it, it looks great. I was really excited when I saw that, I was like 'wow, this looks great'."

Minus all the skepticism aside that if and when this gets released, they better dispense with all the episodic crap.

It'll be a prequel about a young Gordon Freeman at MIT learning how to push crates and pull levers

All it means is they were trying out ideas, that much has been known for many years and Gabe said it wasn't working out more or less. It doesn't mean it'll ever see the light of day, it could mean a guy or two is making concept art or tinkering around with stuff.

Yeah this. I think it was fairly common knowledge that they were always working on it of course. The big news would be that they have landed on an idea / story and are building it.

Everyone has already known for years that they are working on it. What everyone wants to know is when will it be released.

I think they should consider a reboot, basically all 3 and the episodes with the same story but far more richer and detailed environments where the world is more integrated and open. Going a more open world route doesn't sound like a bad idea for this type of game either. Could yield an almost Stalker like experience.

I sure hope they do not do that. I know I am probably alone here, but I am not the biggest fan of open world games. Having an open world with too many options is maybe overwhelming to me? Not sure, but I almost always end up getting bored with those kinds of games. I far prefer things like HL2 which are far more linear and have a solid story to keep you going through the game. Guess that's why I never made it through STALKER.

So someone sees something that looks like maybe it could fit into the Half Life universe and that's enough to say HL3 is coming?

I've given up on this so long ago I don't even know if I care anymore. This is so far down on the list of things I care about in gaming right now and in the future, I don't even know if I'll buy it. Episode 2 was so long ago I barely remember what happened anyway.

As for Left for Dead I'll just say one thing... Evolved will be better.

It was just a personal idea but you can tell that exact same story quite easily in a larger more open map. Even COD would work in a large open map..all you do is go from here to there but the difference is how you get there doesn't matter. City 17 could be more like an actual city. You would still be running from the Carbine or whatever they are called, just more openness about it, a lot could be done here in terms of how you lose them or try to anyway. A lot more of whats going on in the City with other citizens could be told as well.
You don't have to have a hallway style map to tell a story like that. But then again I'm not much into scripted games, I like to make decisions and have variety in problem solving rather than have only 1 calculated way to solve it. I rage when I could easily climb something to move on in the real world but instead am forced to do some puzzle first in game, that just loses immersion for me right then.

That being said I was never into HL nor found the story to be much of a story yet everyone says it's the best story ever told. I played HL 1 and 2 and I didn't get much of what was going on other than were being invaded by aliens because I pushed a cart.

The linear nature of HL2 is why it worked, it was a tight set piece focused game with good plot points and extremely good pacing. I think its one of the few games where I would say that my in real life play time matched up with the game time. Going from City 17 to Ravenholm was pretty amazing seeing the dawn to dusk transition. The same can be said for the episodes. While I do enjoy open world games a lot I think HL doesn't need to change its formula.
