Hi I'm having problems getting Half Life 2 to work in alcohol 120%. When I make the image and load it, it says I am using emulation software which is so. Is there a way to get around this? Please help, I'm not asking to burn a copy but just how to make a working image so I can use my virtual drive. I hate having to use the cd when ever I want to play. BTW why do games still require the disc to be in the drive if you have to have a working CD key?

It's an annoying and usually ineffective way to prevent pirates from playing the game. I don't know of a way to make a perfect image to run on a virtual drive, but I'd be careful in how you try to get around the CD protection scheme. There's a thread about how Valve is locking accounts that use pirated copies of HL2. If you do install some sort of crack or generated CD-key, your account might be locked.

I was able to image the SIMS2.... If and WHEN I do get the time to play the game, and I find all this stress was for nothing then I will return it. Well not return it but instead have the company give me a refund because this is seriously rediculous. I have never been so stressed out because of a game's install and running.

And/Or why is it that non-Steam buyers (retail) need a disc to startup & play HL2 when ppl who bought HL2 via Steam don't? I blame VU on that one.

yep I agreed. I don't know why everyone didn't just use steam anyways esspecially with the sweet back up utility.

Take your pick...

1. No credit card (common with minors & such)
2. Not enough trust in security with credit card information over the internet
3. Not enough trust in electronic delivery
4. Would rather have a professional printed copy
5. Not aware of Steam and/or it's ability to deliver games electronically
6. Slow or no (if someone didn't believe/know about online authentication for SP mode) internet connection
7. Does not possess writable removable media + drive for backup purposes
8. Some other reason(s) and/or any combination of reasons 1-7

EDIT: Added reason #7 + shortened quote.
