I wouldnt expect it until Feb\March at the earliest.

Simple fact is it wasnt ready for a Sept 30th release even before the break in. Now they lost some code it will take that much longer to get out.

when you guys say stolen, do you mean the guy copied source code and then deleted it, or that he just copied it?

IM estimation, Valve lost NO code. Programmers, if worth their salt, make backups everytime modifications are made. A good part of the code if not the whole enchilada was probably duped out and is supposedly fully playable.

Maybe its a good thing that it will be coming late. Means that the real deal may have something extra or special to make it stand out from the leak. Also, it will give a chance to Nvidia to make some performance strides.

Okay, let's get one thing straight... Valve never said they lost any code. No way a company the size of Valve isn't doing regular backups so even if the code was copied and deleted they could've restored the damage from a backup. If you believe Valve they say about 1/3 was stolen and the delay is due to that portion being rewritten. If you believe the guy/crew who stole it they say they have everything (and have threatened to release it all) and the version floating around now is the latest version Valve had. In other words it wasn't ready and even if the code wasn't stolen there would've been a delay.

In this case I'm more inclined to believe the thieves. The reason I say that is why would they steal only a portion of the code if they had a chance to get the whole source? No matter who is telling the truth the end result is the same. Half Life 2 is severely delayed and it sucks! :(

Can't the mods move these threads to the software/games forum?

They really have nothing to do with video other than the fact that Half-Life 2 has graphics.

It is/was cutting edge technology displaying video graphics provided you're not running it on an NV30/NV35:Q

unless you pride yourself on having the best looking game of Q3,UT2k3,Halo etc etc and in that case 16x AF and 6X AA can't be beat

Did they get 1/3 or all of the source code? I hear conflicting statements on that.

If 1/3, then the thieves did a good job just to get an executable that plays anything.
If all, then Valve needs to work on its game.

Either way, Valve needs to work on their security.
