Graphics card: geforce 6800
Display: Dell 2405 (24")
Game: Half Life 2
Half Life 2 "Recommended" Settings: 1680x1050 (16:10); Model Detail: HIGH; AA Mode: 4x; AF: 8x; Texture Detail: HIGH; Texture Detail: HIGH; Water Detail: REFLECT WORLD; Shader Detail: HIGH; Shadow Detail: HIGH; Wait For Verticel Sync: DISABLED; Direct X 9.0
Halo 2 STRESS TEST: 28 FPS (choppy!)

I know that the graphically intensive Half Life 2 can't really be displayed on the Dell 2405 at full native resolution (1920x1200) with my gforce 6800--the video starts to break up top.

The settings above are what the Half Life 2 game automatically recommended.

Can any of you gaming pros RECOMMEND OPTIMAL SETTINGS for my system..........

Edit: When I drop the AA to 2x, my frame rate increases to 53FPS....Better?...I guess....but what do you guys recommend?.........

Methinks your video card is not up to snuff for that monitor. I've got a 6800nu and play it on the 2001fp at less than native (actually 1158 lines). Runs pretty smooth there. Native is too choppy.

You obviously need to lower the settings, who cares what the game recommends.

I've got the same monitor (2405) and an 6800 ultra - turn off the damn AA completely. You can probably run at native without the aa and still have decent frame rates. esspecially at 1920 but 1200 you definately won't be able to make out all the "jaggies". If you're serous about playing you should up grade your card too. I would wait til the summer though, I heard both camps (ATI and Nvidia) are coming out with new cards soon. Treat yourself this time and go all out.

Also that sounds like a perfectly playable score (53fps). You know at native resolution the screen's refresh rate is 60Hz
