ok well anyways heres the story i have a 9800pro 128mb of course and i got the AC vga silencer revison 3 and i was wondering if i should try and flash my bios for a 9800xt and get that little extra performence or should i just oc or will 9800pro be just fine for HL2 graphics and if you tell me to flash my bios what risks are invovled and post a help guide ty

edit:should i stick with 4.7 cat drivers or 4.8 cat drivers

If you're really anticipating HL2, I would suggest just running the game (when/if it comes out) on your current setup because you may be pleasantly surprised with how it runs. No sense in flashing the bios and risking a voided warranty when it may not be necessary. That would be my first suggestion. My 2nd suggestion would be to manually overclock the card with Radlinker/ATI Tool for additional performance boosts. If you're still not content, then you may want to upgrade to "better" card.

I think you'll be fine with a slightly overclocked 9800Pro with HL2. Should run better than D3 did/does on it.

If you're not really having any problems with 4.7, then I wouldn't worry about going to 4.8. The performance difference will be mininal, if existent at all on that card. The latter version is more suited towards the X800 line.

well it depends on the card and core you have before you flash to xt.

installing that vga silencer already voided your warrenty so you cant rma it back if anything goes wrong with the flash. use the search button, alot of flashing topics have been on these boards.

Your Pro will be just fine. Remember, only a year ago the 9800 Pro was considered *THE* card to play HL2 with. Just because the game is stuck in development hell does not mean we need X800s all of a sudden.

bingo (besides, I've heard rumors floating around you can play the game on a Rage 128 PRO, which would mean the game is extremely flexible)

Just like we can play doom 3 on a reg old Geforce? Or was it the Voodoo 3 origonally? 😉
I wouldnt say u could "play" HL2 on that card, but it may just barely run.

You need to find out what core you have before you try any bios flashings.
If you have the wrong core and you flash it, you will need to use a PCI card to boot up, and flash it back to the old bios (which you of course need to back up).
As long as you have decent cooling, you shouldn't need any features of the xt bios.
