Half-life 2 water issue

I am having problems with my water in HL2. It looks all white! In Lost Coast the water looks just fine. I've never had this problem before. I have a 6600GT, i was using an older driver version, so i decided to update them, and i still have the problem. I've read elsewhere that the newer drivers have problems with the HL2 water, can anyone else confirm that? This is what it looks like:

Dude you didn't know? This is a special mode that is enabled in options, "snow covered water". DUH!

lol just joking. I have never seen that when playing with my 9200 🙂 Try different drivers or lower the settings just to see what happens, if that doesn't work, someone else will have to help you.

Are you OCing? Did you use Driver Cleaner when you updated the drivers? Do this:

*Download Driver Cleaner & latest official NV drivers.
*Uninstall existing NV driver.
*Reboot into Safe Mode.
*Run Driver Cleaner as the directions specify, to the letter.
*Reboot into regular mode & install new drivers.

Try that out and report back

I download driver cleaner and the latest drivers from nvidia
I uninstalled the nvidia driver
I rebooted into safemode and ran driver cleaner
rebooted into windows normally and installed the nvidia drivers.
I rebooted again, and the water is still white! I think it's either Valve or Nvidia bug.

Half-Life 2's specularity messed up ever since the 64 bit patch. This only affects those on a 32bit OS and the Source games that do not run on 64bit. HDR somewhat stops the problem, except water ends up dark and doesn't reflect as much as it used to. If you play through any Source game you'll also notice any texture that has specularity is much shinier than before. VALVe messed something up when they patched Source to support 64bit.
