Yes so then they'll make an ATI only version also. Unless they like losing sales. Hope it doesn't end up like Nintendo with their exclusive games.

How can they when NVidia doesn't even have the largest share in Video cards. Believe it or not, Intel Has the largest share, followed by Nvidia and then ATI.

Plus, how are they going to make it NV only? Majority of user still have GF4 or lower cards, and unless I am mistaken, they support standard Direct X stuff.

FX does have some unqiue stuff, but there won't be a large enough market for an exclusive games.

Unless NVidia is putting up $50 Mil for the developers, there is no way they would do this.

The link you provided is saying that their source is Insider from NV.

Bahh, didn't we have enough "info" from NV already.

here is an idea for nvidia. make a glide4 from the tech that they bought from 3dfx, then buy out all the big game developers and force them to use it. ahh the good ole 3dfx days.

if devlopers did this, they would effectivly make the market they were selling the game to mare than half the size that if they released it on all cards.... so unless Nvidia paying them exorbiant amounts of money to make it exclusive then this is one of the most retarded ideas i have heard in awhile....
and there is the possibilty that that game wont be amazing and may be overhyped... and if so then the amount of buyers will be even smaller and then nvidia would have spent alot of moeny on marketing and on paying for the exclusive for nothing
I really hope this doesnt happen

EDIT: also wouldnt this kinda be working against all the strides microsoft has made with making directx uiniform for all video card makers etc? i mean this basicly makes directx a moot point, cause if card devlopers are makign exclusive gmaes with exclusive features, then they will need their own languages and wont use directx.... or they will jsut m,ak eextensions to directx.... kinda backwards in my mind

I read this thread somewhere else. I think the general consensus was it was an April Fool's joke.

Thats just rumor. If they did that, it would only look bad on them since that is a cheap marketing trick so people buy their cards, and they would have to pay a crap load of money to do that. In the money they have to pay them, they could make their own game, lol.

Many of today's developers are hardly making much money. They need every sale possible. I don't think they are going to reduce it by Nvidia only. Lol, I bet they are going to make it on a workstation with an ATI card because it had a better price, lol.

It'll never happen. I did hear rumblings that H2 may be Xbox exclusive, if only for a little while. I know M$ was looking to purchase Vivendi's game division, so it could turn out as such. Who knows these days? :)

hello
i've heard a lot in this subject, that most companies will build games based on the nvdia ship,
but couldn't you play the game with an ati also? or it will work best with nvdia?

Take a look at Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City as an example.Rockstar could sell a hell of a lot of games if it was cross platform.Bringing it to Xbox and Gamecube would fill their pockets even more.Sony paid them off to make it PS2 exclusive on console.Look how long its taking it to come to PC even (Vice City).GT3 had a ton of bugs on the PC and a lot of people burn their games on PC so I don't think they made that much money on it for the PC version as they did on the PS2.People burn games on PS2 aswell but its too easy to do on PC.Its just more of a hasstle to burn on the PS2.You would be surprised how much they get to make a game like GTA exclusive.I bet were talking a few million here.Otherwise It wouldn't be worth their trouble.Nvidia could sell a lot of cards with a deal like HL2.I know people that stilll play HL1 to this day.

Maybe if they sell the games for HALF the price, they would increase sells and reduce copies around the world.

In My Opinion, there is no way it can be exclusive to NVIDIA on PC market, since they plus ATI use directx, which is universal. There are a set of specifications to reach if a card is to be directx9 compatible, for example.

That war about "Mine is directx9.0+ compatible" vs "Mine is directx9.0++ compatible" I think it's just marketing, since a developer programs for directx9 specifications to be universal ...

... now if we say that it will be XBOX exclusive, that's another story ... isn't XBOX equiped with a NVIDIA chipset? There you go ...

Don't think it will happen either. Too much revenue in other card chipsets to have it be Nvidia only.

FYI: Sierra only published Half-Life. Valve funded its own development and is completely independent. Hell, as of today, Valve's future games will be published by Activision.

Activision and Valve Team Up

Sounds like my idea of making the game developer's create create a driver for their own games for each company. Like... you buy HL2 and there's an nVidia optimized driver, and an ATI optimized driver... and your video card comes with a generic driver that will work with anything, but game developers can create their own driver to best utilize the capabilities of the video card.
