Yup, I think they beat MS at their own game.... The activation requirements are going to make it very hard to crack.

Where does he say they would unlock it if the date is broken? I am curious to see the post.

Anything can be cracked. You just edit the instruction set to skip over the part that makes the authentication call.

I want to play Half Life 1 Source before I play Half Life 2.. is that coming out at teh same time as Half Life 2?

Maybe I should just play the original

Wait for Source. HL1 was the best game ever, however, it won't be the same using 5+ year old technology. It is worth it if you want to see the best enemy A.I. to date. I'm not sure if it will have the same impact on you as it did for those of us that played it when it first came out.

it'll be cracked before it's even released.

More specific than a "game" engine, but a new graphics and physics engine. The results won't be quite as dramatic as you may think, though. Graphical improvements will not wow you in any way, and will not look anywhere close to the conversion done with CS:S or even HL2 itself.

If Half life 2 is a worldwide release that means we can start playing At Midnight Tuesday, Right? But if its world wide, that means that at midnight in Fiji, they have to be turned on, which happens to be 7:00AM Monday morning for us here on the US east coast! Please correct me if I'm wrong about the time.

Yep, just as games that "require" the CD can have a hacked .exe, you can bet your top dollar that HL2 single player will be released, and playable, on the internet.

Well, Valve seems to be trying to sell the realism in the source engine a lot. They've constantly been going on about realistic AI and physics, so I'm hoping it will be the type that sets a new standard. Obviously HL2 doesn't break any records in graphics, and maybe that's a good thing. Maybe that way, the game won't be rated on its graphics.

Why the hell do they keep releasing f'ing huge games like this on FIVE CDS!?!?! People with computers capable of playing HL2 at anywhere near an acceptable level will most likely have at least a DVD-ROM drive.

DVD production is not expensive. They probably just figure that EVERYONE has at least a CD-ROM drive. I wouldn't be surprised if they released a DVD version after the CD release.
