Half Life 2 resistence == Iraqi insurgency?

I just got past the level "anticitizen one." So far I've driven civilian vehicles rigged up with guns, planted explosive barrels, stolen landmines for use against occupation troops, and used RPGs to shoot down attack helicopters. The Combine has a lot of high tech communications gear, spy drones, manhacks, and striders, yet they can't seem to conclusively beat the resistence.

A lot of things about the Combine remind me of the occupation. The Citadel, for example, reminds me of the Green Zone. Both are walled off compounds where the occupying forces govern from. There are checkpoints everywhere. The urban areas are crumbling and destroyed. Dr. Breen steadfastly maintains that the occupation is for the benefit of humanity.

I'm not saying the US == Combine. The Combine does some really awful things that the US occupation hasn't done in Iraq, like using bioweapons (headcrab filled rockets) on civilians and doing genetic modifcations on people.

Anyone else see similarities?

Yes, since you've been there and everything.

interesting point, but it seems like the development for this game, especially the idea, was spawned way befre we began occupying Iraq. I bet you could find similarities between this and most other "occupations,"

So you don't agree that the concept is similar? A walled-off compound surrounded by checkpoints that's supposed to be a safe area for the governing parties?
