HALF LIFE 2 Question

Under the Filter option there is Bilinear Trilinear then the Anistropics,,,, That confuses me,, which one is better exactly and whats the difference between the linears and the tropics.
Also what if i use Force mipmap under Bi-Trilinear what happens to the Anis then... I'm confused now...
