this review is crap, he says the geforce cards are cpu bound, but both ATI and Geforce card rising at almost the same rate as more CPU speed is added.

"The X800 cards on the other hand scale much better, although the X800 PRO is able to deliver very competitive performance with the RADEON X800 XT and X800 XT Platinum Edition in this scenario."

I have a 3200+ Barton and a 9700 Pro right now at 9800 Pro speeds... i am dipping below 60-50 fpswith all the eye candy turned on at 1280x960. So in order to average 70+ fps I would have to shell out $500? :( :confused:

looks like its the same story for both companies, bud.

did you read all the way through? once you crank up the settings the ati cards pull ahead:p quite far ahead.

well only if you want 1280x1024 4xaa 8xaf at that 70fps;) i somehow doubt u have all the eye candy turned on... which would have to include af/aa;) course that being said hl2 looks damn pretty even on older cards, rather decent feat.

ok well maybe not all in full since i have only have it at 4xAA and 4xAF :p...putting 4XAA and 16xAF drops me down to 35-30fps and below... :( but its so damn pretty. :D

eh, i run at low everything... 1024x768...stupid lcd and fixed res. pos radeon 9000 pro, but i don't feel like upgrading, and its running decent considering..and it doesn't look horrid really. but its nice to know i can upgrade just the vid card sooner or later...and still keep around my oc barton.

lol i was running HL2 with a geforce 2 Mx 200, 32mb and a athlon XP 1600 (1.4ghz) Palomino and 512mb pc133 ram....

Game runs fine and still looks beautiful... hard to notice any diference from my other card radeon 9600XT 128mb.

yea it doesn't seemto get really ugly until dx7 mode... that article has nice pics of the difference.
