Half Life 2 is coming...

its a heavily modified half life engine last time i knew, and i mean heavily.. otherwise it would look horrible

Of course they've had Duke Nukem Forever teasers and demos for several years now, so I'll believe it when it goes gold, and buy it only after the reviews say it isn't daikatana-tastic.

You captured my sentiment exactly.

When a game goes on sale it has to go into the 'channels' so to say and EBGames doesn't even have it in the pipes so to say but they do have Team Fortress 2 on 9/14/2003 and Half-Life Counter-Strike: Condition Zero on 11/1/2003 so don't hold your breath yet for HL2 or even hoping to have it released this year.

Now for the add, it says that it's going on sale may 16th. That's the date that the Mag goes on sale so it's most likely that the mag will have an early preview of HL2 just like they did with games like UT2K3 DOOMIII which BTW has been delayed ti'll November 15 now.

I'm not a betting man but If I were to put money on the HL2 release it would be in 2004 at the earliest, knowing Valve (even then)

Valve should have learned their lesson when E3 voted Team Fortress 2 game of the year in 1999.... so this game is 4 years late. For valve to even allow a mag to review a game that's months or even years away is quite stupid if you ask me. Only reason I could think of is if there was sex involved, blackmail or someone lost in a poker game.

Um... didn't they cancel Team Fortress 2? I mean, you can't really say a game is 4 years late when it was cancelled.

I'm not going to bother getting excited about it. They can't even get out CS:CZ, so I'm sure it will be quite awhile before we see HL2.

Valve isn't working on CS:CZ, Ritual is...

Yes but they will use the new engine that valve is going to put in HL2

the game was never cancelled just delayed.... it's schedule to come out in a few months. <----- I can't believe I just said that.

- "The magazine preview itself is said to mention the game will be out before the end of the year."

- "Although incredibly brief this is probably deserving of a full news item all by itself since it's the first direct correspondence from Valve Software on the topic. We just got this very brief statement from Valve Software: Half-Life 2 will be shown at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo."

which btw is May 13 - 16, 2003 in L.A.

No, they aren't. They're using the same engine that HL used. I'd recommend looking at the latest screenshots from Ritual.

It was originally delayed because Valve started coding their own in-house renderer for their new games. This new engine was to be used for Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike 2, and Half-Life 2. It would appear that Valve slowed development of TF2 some time ago in order to accelerate the release of HL2. There have been absolutely zero screenshots or official information about Valve's new engine - only speculation that its using the Havoc physics engine.

Hell, the last new TF2 screenshots from Valve was around the end of 2000. This is supposedly when the old HL engine was scrapped and work on the new engine began.

In my so very humble opinion, Half-Life 2 will be released early next year, with Team Fortress 2 as an add-on for the fall/winter of 2004.

HL2 is a long ways off prolly about a year CS 1.6 should be pretty damn soon and CS:CZ should be shortly thereafter. CZ has nothing to do with halflife 2 they arent using the same engine. Honestly we're not sure what engine they are gonna use for HL2 but many speculate/hope it will be similar to the doom3 engine.

Gee, you people seem to know an awful lot of inside information.

I, for one, am looking forward to this game. I know it's going to kick ass, regardless of whether it's "years" late.

>regardless of whether it's "years" late.

HL2 is not years late coz they never announced it, it's TFC2 that's years late. Well for all the speculation, it will be over on April 28 when the mag's NDA's run out and trust me by May 15th we will know if it's out before the end of the year.

But consider this, and I do say this with meaning, with all the major fumbling and moronic mismanagement that went into TFC2, CZ and other projects and if Valve at E3 says that HL2 will be out this year and if in the end they can't make that release date they will get the ass of the year award and will be the laughing stock of the industry. With the greatest game of all time will come the greatest baloney company of all time.
