Half life 2 install

I just got HL2 today and I'm trying to install it. I go through the installation through the CDs. but then at the end when I enter the cd key it says "Installation of Half life 2 Retail Standard required before continuing. Please insert Half life 2 CD/DVD into drive and select install"

But I ALREADY DID THIS!!!!! :|

I've tried installing twice and I still get this same problem!!!!

so pissed right now :frown:

how do get the game installed?????
 
this is the retail standard hl2 you bought that is giving you this problem right? i cant give you an exact answer, however the tech support for your hl2 will be able to help more than i can. they should give an 800 # somewhere listed in your paperwork inside the box.
 
I read of installation problems if you choose to install HL2 but not Counter-Strike: Source. If that is the case, install both, get HL2 running and then uninstall CSS.
