Half life 2 has serious problems...

OK, first off, I love HL2...but the game has its problems and NO ONE has tried helping me that much. I am very dissapointed. So, here's my problem:

The sound is delayed in the game by about 1/2 a second. So, i shoot a gun, it recoils, and half way through it starts to play the Sound effect for the gun...

I had a temporary fix, if I played the game with the HDR bloom mod, for some odd reason, the sound would be ON TIME!!!

So, today, i finally solved my studdering problem, and was removing some commands in my autoexec.cfg file that i made (as they didn't help my game, and it worked well without them)
but then i started up the bloom mod....sound was delayed.....uh oh.....

So yeah, it sucks...the sound in HL2 is delayed with my computer...it MIGHT be the fact that i put in a 6600gt where as before i had a 9200...i did driver cleaner and all that...but that shouldn't be the cause. i know it isn't the drivers...

i have no clue what it is...something leads me to think that i need some way to load sound files into some cache or something (i saw something pop up and say it was doing it in the hdr bloom mod, but it no longer does that for some reason)

any help is greatly appreciated

So, all that and not a mention of what's pushin' the sound eh? You have a sound card...? And considering what seems to be the number of twitches and tweaks you've applied ... well, no way to help there. Maybe it's that "Fancy blue glowy Vaio logo" thing.

anyways, i don't know what sound card i have...why would it matter? it just started doing this recently, and why would it have used to work on the bloom mod? i dunno

I had this problem when I was using the onboard sound card, bought a Turtle Beach sound card and the problem went away.

You're having sound problems, and you ask why your sound card would matter?

i did, i actually have the newest drivers for my computer....

Strangely enough, i reinstalled the HDR bloom mod, and the sound works fine for that now, but still not the game...I'm thinking a standard reinstall of the game should fix the problem.

REFORMAT... and update everything to the lastest stable drivers and install HL2, and play.

I had the same problem using Audigy 2 card. I think my fix was moving down from 5.1 to 4 speaker in the game setup. You should be able to find a lot of discussion about it because this was a problem occurring for a lot of folks.

'Cause the game is still 'buggy' :p

that's why

some very good systems STILL have the "stuttering" problem . . . not to mention Steam's delivery is less than perfect - especially for dial-up.

I had all kinds of sutter problems on my p4 2.6/800fsb with 256mb ram and 5900xt but I upgraded to 512MB of ram and it almost stoped all shuttering. Then a few days ago Half life 2 was updated and now I've had one very slight shutter ( basicaly just a sound glitch for 0.4 seconds ) in over 4 hours of game play. One option is to run at the dxlevel 70 command at startup that should make half life 2 run on most computers but it won't look so hot. I think they are still working out the bugs and over time source will become a nice engine.
