RUMOR #1: Half-Life 2 is gold. Really. No foolin'. Honest.

Source: If we told you, we'd have to kill you.

The official story: Both VU Games and Valve declined comment.

What we heard: Ever since the release candidate for Half-Life 2 was submitted to VU Games in mid-September, a piñata has hung in the lobby of Valve's headquarters. The plan: to bust the sucker open when the game achieved gold status. Earlier today, GameSpot learned from a locally based source that "the piñata has been broken" and the game has gone gold. Further evidence of the game's completion was a press release issued this afternoon touting the first review of "the entire game." Though nothing official has been announced yet, it appears the fat lady is at last clearing her throat.

Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus.

oh, i am sorry. i am just so used to people who come into one of these threads (which i don't really understand if they care enough to click on the thread and read it) and post a sarcastic comment like yours trying to insinuate that this game is about 2 years overdue.

HL1 was delayed, why is it a suprise HL2 has been delayed?
Loads of games get delayed, it happens, forget about it.

And hopefully this means it'll be playtime soon.

I dont think "delayed" even begins to describe what DN:F has gone through

It is a little more than insinuating, considering it is 2 years overdue. ;)

Doom 3 took forever too, and despite not being the greatest game, was great to look at and even kinda fun

Anyone who's going to play Half Life 2 via Steam is going to see crappy results. Steam is a performance inhibiter. Play it outside of Steam!

Uhhh, you CAN'T play outside of Steam unless you hack it. Half-Life 2 will require activation through Steam and, unless I'm wrong, will run through Steam like CS1.6 and CS:S.

That totally sucks. Seriously. Steam is a complete WASTE of software, HDD space, and resources.

Agreed. I bailed on HL1 when I heard about steam, but I'll still have to play HL2 :|

WTF? Wait a second, pardon my ignorance on this subject, but are you telling me that if I go out and buy HL2 at BB or EBG or wherever, I won't be able to play it unless I subscribe to Steam? If that's true, that's total crap. Why should I subscribe to some proprietary service to play a stand-alone game? It's not like I'm playing a MMORPG or something. :|

Please, correct me if I'm wrong on this.

you are wrong. If you buy it in a store, you will not be required to subscribe to steam.
