. Half Life 2 Freezes, gives me memory error. Help

I get the same exact thing. I can barely play a couple of minutes of this game then it just either gives me that memory error, BSOD, or stutters and gets stuck.
Interestingly, it started to frequently happend after I reached Area 17 (after you get the buggy)... or could it be because of the patches?? Posted on ATOT and no reply.
Did some googling and found people with similar issues but no solution by either valve or the community.
I even came across a post where some dude got so frustrated he purchased a whole new mobo, processor, memory, and ATI video card just to play!!
 
turns out the problem was where Isaved the game. If I reloaded that save, it gave me that error and if i loaded a different save, I was ok.

Seems to be a glitch in the game. Is there a fix anywhere that you know of?
