Half-Life 2: Episode Two

Just readin PCG magazine when all of sudden I read:

Spring 2007 :Q What happened being released later this year?

HL2:E2 will cover almost as much distance as HL2, but will still be 4-6 hours of gameplay. You know what that means - a vehicle will come into play that will take up a lot of game time. You will have access to a vehicle during half of the game. The areas you'll be seeing are forest, mines, and a missle silo. Looks like you'll be riding around in that thing through battlefields - kick assness. There is mention of battlefield type play, where I guess it means that you'll be doing your thing while the rebels are fighting the combine all around you. They're really pushing big open areas/battlefield thing. There will also be more physics puzzles than in E1. The gravity gun will get "new ammunition with unique behaviors" towards enemies. Dog returns. We'll learn some new Combine, Vortigaunt and Gman(probably vague) details. The combine data recovered in E1 will have great impact in E2. How? I don't know.

Those are all the juicy details.

Spring 2007 isn't much more than 8 months. Only a month or month and a half more.

I have yet to play Episode 1 🙁

Hmm.. If they want people to buy into the episodic format, they're going to have to release the episodes more frequently than that.

I'll have forgotten everything that happened in Episode 1 by the time Ep2 comes out.

somehow that makes games all the more nostalgic.

but anyway... bleah! the vehicles were the worst part of HL2, and fighting in a vehicle is 1/10. It's the main reason i stopped playing and continued playing CS.

Bleh, I'm so sick of the gravity gun. It was interesting when HL2 first came out because you hadn't seen it before, but it's basically a gimmick, and I got so sick of it after using it for the first half of Episode 1. Also, the physics of it are completly unbeleivable.

i kinda like the way the publishers at Bethesda do it . . . a new cheap Oblivion plugin every 2-3 weeks for 2-3 dollars each . . . Yesterday i got Mehrunes' Razor - an awesome 4-6 hours of FPS-style fighting and a great story to boot - . . . with lots of puzzles and hidden places

i just got Ep1 for $7.99 at CC and am waiting [forever] for G-D Steam to "update" . . . . otoh Mehrunes Razor "activated" INSTANTLY.

i think Valve could learn something from Bethesda . . . too little costs too much and is damn inconvenient as well

and you can be sure i will be back in a few hours with my opinion of Ep1 😉

:Q

😀

EDIT: a "few hours" . . . I wish 😛

i friggin HATE Steam :|

probably another SIX hours to update over Dial Up . . . even though i have ZERO wish to EVER re-play HL2 or Loast Coast - it insists on updating them BEFORE i can play Ep1 [no i can't 'pause' the 2 deliveries or it won't start in 'offline' mode].

it will take longer to update Ep1 than to play it
:disgust:

Sorry, OP i just can't get excited over Ep2 when the greedy guys at Valve don't bother to improve their god-awful delivery system. . . .

i am not so sure i will ever bother with a steam game again . . .
. . . maybe that's WHY they take so LONG to release an episode . . . it takes awhile for memories of a bitter experience with them to fade.

. . . consider it a 'bump' anyway . . . i'm off to take a nap 😛

you can configure steam to not update certain games in your list.

Just right click on the game in the steam menu and select properties. Then select the tab for updates...

/me is holding out for a BattleMech as the vehicle this time! 😀 We'll squeeze Alyx into the cockpit somehow... she can be in charge of unwrapping snacks. yeah. 😎

Alyx, are there any more Snickers bars...? Oh, they kinda melted, didn't they. 🙁 Dang PPCs...

it never worked well for me . . . that hasn't changed since HL2 . . . and then i heard the sound stutter . . .

maybe i am just a bitter old man . . . 😛
:Q

sorry about that earlier rant

😀

Seriously - it took only 4 [instead of 6] hours to fully update. i tried 'pausing' the other updates ['properties', whatever] but then Steam refused to start any game for me in 'offline' mode. 🙁

ANYway, i finally only just started Ep1 . . . looks nice [even if Alyx looks like a boy] and shadows and lighting are rather outdated [nonexistant] 😛

the story starts interestingly enough and the dialog is decent . . . i think i like it already . . . if they can 'continue' the story at the same level i think EPs 2-3 can be successful

However, i think something is seriously wrong if you guys pay $20 for it and 2 weeks later i can buy it for $7.99 . . . i know i'd sure be irritated . . . and i got a nice DVD box too. 😛

They should be working on some of the content in parallel. By the time EP1 went gold, they should have been 50% done with EP2. I would have expected a december release date for Ep2.

If alyx looks like a boy then I am not straight.

The thing I didn't like about the grav gun in both HL2 and ep 1 is that magically all your enemies no longer dropped guns once the gun got powered up. Am I supposed to believe that the super grav gun vaporized guns?
