Now that Half life episode 2 is priced at $29.95 !!

Is it a 3.5hr long Half life 2 episode 1 or is a 6hrs ++ ?

Do you think its fair for valve to price us $10 more than what they originally told us of what an Half life 2 episodic content would cost.

Imagen all the content that valve would have made just make this episode right in the their minds ;(

This better be as good as Half life 1 Opposing force which was great expansion : )

whatever price it is, I will pay it

HL2 was my favorite game of all time. HL2 Ep1 was right up there

Does this still come with Portals and TF2? if so $30 isn't THAt bad but yes if its just like EP1 Valve can go to hell. I finished that up in short order. I really like HL2 baseed games but $30 is just to much if it has the same amount of content as EP1 did.

I remember when I got crucifed for complaining about the ep idea Valve was making.

At least the tide has turned and for once I can, "I told you so".

But down back to reality....Hl2 has a large enough fan base to charge that much. Wasn't D3 $59.99 when it first came out? Sheesh. I don't even remember it being on a DVD either.

Yeah, I was intrigued by the idea of episodic content when it was announced, but Valve royally screwed that up. That being said, I'm still looking forward to Ep2.

I've heard that it's 6+ hours (about 2/3 of HL2?) but honestly if you're not going to get the Ep2 + Portal + TF2 pack, you might want to wait until it's released to find out how much content is there. Considering how long they've been working on it, I sure hope it is 6+ hours. Truth be told, though, $29.99 is what any other developer would charge for an expansion pack at release. As I've said in the other thread, I don't know why there are these expectations that Valve should sell their games at a bigger discount than they already do.

And I agree that episodic content, while good in theory, doesn't work in reality. There's a lot of 'fixed length' work required to make a game that doesn't change based on the amount of content, especially with Valve constantly modifying and updating the Source Engine.

I'll probably pick it up...but I don't really care about it that much. I cared one year ago when the game was originally supposed to come out.

I don't even remember what Ep.1 was about.

I think the preview/interview in pc gamer said ep 2 was coming in at around 7 hours. Seeing as how Heavenly Sword can be finished in 6 hours for $50, I think $30 for a HL2 game is reasonable. Just play it fast and resell it on ebay for $20. Bioshock only cost me $7 after I recouped :)

I don't think Valve actually knows what episodic gaming is.

Yeah I agree. Had they managed to bring it out a year f*king earlier then it would have been something. By now they should have had HL3 done!! It's been 3 years since HL2 came out for (whatever meaningless expletive's) sake!!

And no one tell me that that's not enough time. FAR CRY came out 3 years ago too and look at what Crytek has managed to create with Crysis soon-to-be-released

Does this come with episode 1? I haven't played it and was hoping it would come with 2 so I could do both at once.

prepurchased the orange box. I needed another account with hl2 and hl2 ep1 on it. I gave my second account away to a friend who needed it. Now we can play against each other.

I felt ripped off paying $17 for HL2, and didn't even bother getting episode one.

By the by, does Valve make any games, other than Half-Life?

Ditto. I'm reading this thread thinking that EP2 better come with TF *and* Portal for a $ 29.99 price.....

I'll pick it up when Circuity City has it for about $ 15.99 if that's not the case....

I loved HL2 but am I the only one to think EP1 was.... meh?

If by games other than Half-Life, you mean Half-Life spin-offs, then yes. Otherwise, no.

Same here. And the sound those antlions made was so annoying I wanted to throw myself out the window.

I liked EP1 better than HL2 :p I had just about given up on the HL franchise. I loved HL, but thought HL2 was a pale shadow of it's former glory. I think EP1 was truer to the original HL, and it didn't have any irritating driving sequences. If it weren't for EP1(I got it free with a gfx card), I'd probably never have bought another HL game. I'll give EP2 a shot though since I liked EP1 so much.

I agree with you there. Ep1 felt like it was a lot less dragged out than HL2. I'm not saying Hl2 wasn't any good, but EP1 was a nice concentrated dose and It felt like more of a survival game than a FPS.

I thought EP1 ended abruptly and offered little gameplay for $30, but I still think $30 is about the right price for an add-on mission or episode pack.

HL2 episode 2 is $29.95
Portal is $19.95
TF2 is $29.95

Orange Box cost = $45 if you preorder it now

Episode one came out in : June 1, 2006

So they been working on Episode 2 , Portal and TF2 since then.

To me Valve have found a way to suck more cash out of its customers :!

Half life 2 took years to develop and they have to sell it at $49.95 which ain't so great for them.

So now they take a year and half to develop one epiosde and few other project and sell em for all their worth and to make way more profit then they would make with a game like full long Half life.

They would sell 2millions of HL2 episode 2 easy which would make them $60million alone and then TF2/Portal another 40million. Cost of development would be way below $8million (even lower since its only been in development for 1and half year since full game like HL2 , Bioshock cost less than $20million to make).

Anyways Black-box which i had pre-ordered at eb was canceled for a reason so that valve could make more money. Why sell HL2 episode 2 , Portal , TF2 for $29.95.
