Half Life 2: Episode 2 AI Bug?

I just killed those two guardian things, but now Alyx and that weird creature (don't recall the name) won't follow me to the next task of getting the elevator up and running. Has anyone come across this? It's incredibly frustrating.
 
it's what we call a puzzle and you have to get it activated by yourself like all those other times that you leave alex behind and activate electricity/doors/etc.....

Well, then what am I missing? I figured out how to activate the previous elevator with the gear and from what I've read, the creature is supposed to follow me to the elevator shaft and start the generator for this one.
 
make sure you activate the 'congratulations' sequence with the vort. then it should lead you over there
 
I had this problem too. The Vortigaunt seemed to be stuck on a rock in my case. Restart the sequence from before getting into the walled-in thumper.
 
There were some other bugs in the game. Some characters would have their hands out and don't move when they are supposed to be doing something. It didn't effect game play but it was distracting to see NPC stand there doing nothing.

No, the elevator is stuck. You need to climb up there and unstuck it.

No, the elevator is stuck. You need to climb up there and unstuck it.

No, it's not. That's part of the game, but it's not the problem I've having.

Anyway, ConstipatedVigilante was right. I restarted the game from that level before getting to that last thumper and it worked fine. It's a bug.
 
You get the screw from the other elevator that's broken. Stick it in to the half functioning elevator. Once you stick the screw in push the elevator button and the alien will come down from the elevator.
 
There's 2 elevators. First one you screw. The other one you have to get on top of the elevator and drop down and push the elevator button and Alyx and alien will follow you.
 
No, IT'S A BUG. He's talking about the elevator that takes you up to the rebel encampment. The Vortigaunt needs to activate the generator to open a gate, then you have to unstick the elevator. The Vortigaunt wasn't moving.
