I just finished Half-Life 2 and in my opinion the ending was piss poor. I guess the upside is that there can easily be a Half-Life 3 but I think that there could have been a better way to end it and still leave the opportunity for another sequel. Alright, just wanted to rant to get it off my chest :) Let me know what you think about the ending - did you not like it, or am I just dumb?

It wans't so much suck as it was... disappointing. Personally, I was fine with it until I found out Alyx survives (she's in Aftermath)...

I liked storming nazi HQ in call of duty, we won the war :) if that qualifys.

As for the half life 2 ending... It was allrite, mighta been better if the citadel thing took off and went into space with gordon on it or maybe if a giant independance day ship came down and nabbed gordon just after the administrator guy gets killed.

Norm

Isn't aftermath based on the time period when she and gordon went seperate ways? Not after the confrontation in the citadel?

Yea, I felt left like I was left hanging as well. Sigh, oh well, it'll probably be a hallmark of all HL installments.

Thats a good question. Off the top of my head, I cant think of an ending that made me feel satisfied:(

I hate Valve's policy of "answer some questions, ask more". I need to have some idea of what's going on! Do they have the whole "half-life universe" figured out and they just drop us small hints or are they making it up as they go?

Funny. Years ago I was having the same thoughts about the X-Files. Let's hope HL doesn't follow down that same path (albeit on a much shorter timescale than nine TV seasons).

I just kept telling myself it had to get better somewhere along since so many people loved it.
Can't say it did, and yeah, I didn't like the ending either.

Have to agree though, I can't say I remember any FPS's that have had a "Great" ending, though most have definitely been more satisfying than HL2.
At least most tend to have some sort of closure.

The only one I can think of wasn't story-based: Serious Sam.

I personally liked the ending of Half-Life2. It was very appropriate with the HL universe. I can't wait for Aftermath.

Agreed
It wasn't an "ending"... it was a cliffhanger.
Thats like saying the end to Empire Strikes (or most if not all season finales TV dramas) back was "sh!tty"... no it was a HUGE cliffhanger leaving you DYING for the next installment. Brilliant move on Valves' part.

Edit: Nobody said anywhere the "end" of a game had to be its "end".

It was pretty lame. After such an epic setup, it disappointing to see such a fizzle ending. I wanted to see some scenes of the uprising kicking combine ass.

I guess thats my point... Valve can now do anything with the storyline via addons that they want. Prequels? Sequels? missing pieces to the puzzle? They can script it like a on-going TV/movie drama now all they want. Flash back episodes would be sweet too.

I was confused by the ending. I thought it was because I hadn't paid enough attention to the story, but I guess it's really just because it's more of a pause in the story than an ending.

That's all well and good - thinking about the future and leaving things open-ended - but sometimes you have to deliver in the now, or no one is going to bother to buy those prequels/sequels/flashbacks if they know they all lead to rewardless disappointment.

The one thing that i want to konw is Who and/or what is the G Man? I'm thinking that they don't really want to give that information out yet so they are holding off on anything that might give it away, though that still does piss me off after waiting for however long it was for HL2

Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast was alright. Take on a ridiculously overpowered dark warrior. It's nice to learn his fighting styles and finally beat him with lightsaber skill.
Or exploit a bug that lets you easily kill him with 3 shots from the sniper weapon. :)

I guess one of these years I'll have to try HL2 myself. I finally played HL1 about 5 years after it was released, so that gives me until what, 2009 to do HL2? I think I can manage that.
