I was absolutely beside myself when I received this e-mail earlier today
Dear Customer,

I am writing in the hope of clearing up some of the confusion relating to what is going on with different versions of the Half-Life 2 release.

Unfortunately, we have learned that there is no solid date for the release of the Half-Life 2 Collector?s Edition, which is due to reasons far beyond our control.

There is hope that this Collector?s Edition will see the light of day before Christmas but at the moment we are unable to confirm anything.

In good news, we are currently despatching the standard version of Half-Life 2 ? and if you manage to order it today (before 2pm) then there?s a very good chance you?ll receive it tomorrow morning ? the morning of release.

You can order Half-Life 2 here:

http://shop.game.net/ViewProdu...t=11142&mid=321046

Your order for the Collector?s Edition is still live ? though obviously we haven?t charged your card - if you feel you?d rather cancel it you can do so by using our Customer Service Support Form:

http://shop.game.net/help/CustService.aspx

I hope this has cleared up any confusion, we will confirm any more details on the Collector?s Edition of Half-Life 2 as soon as we know for sure what?s going on.

Regards

Jonny Austin

We wait 4 years, you show us screenies of the best looking game in existence and tell us it will be out in 3 months. Then its delayed, then its delayed again. Then Valve suffer a tragic source code leak and its delayed again. And now, LESS THAN 24 HOURS before the moment of glory, before the moment the gaming community has been waiting for for 5 long years they tell me its delayed AGAIN

*breaks down in tears*

Uhhhh..the game isn't delayed just that the place you ordered delayed YOUR order, not the whole game! And order from Steam!!!

Jesus. If I'd put down a preorder, I'd be pissed.

As it is, I'll be cruising by the EB tomorrow - if there's extra copies, I'll post back. :)

I don't know who sent you that email, but I have a copy of HL2 Collector's Edition (compliments of Best Buy). It most definitely is not delayed. You will be able to play it tonight at midnight.

Yeh, but thats not the point. I like having a box and a shiney CD - it looks good in my game collection. Ordering from Steam takes the actual owning out of the game - your left with just the data - which is what is important but its not got quite the same soul without a real box.
And ordering gold edition from steam would take FOREVER to get shipped to the UK.

I have been saying this for several years now. Until it sits on the shelf in your local software store, it is vaporware....

I think you got duped. The collector's edition has been spoted in stores, and I think this is their way of trying to put blame for not being able to/forgetting to order copies of the collector's edition.

From the looks of it, game.net is just one of many places that sells games, not the official spokesperson for Valve or Vivendi, which means they are probably just making stuff up.

If you had ordered last month, you'd already have your GOLD stuff like most everyone else in Europe.

Maybe they're just not getting a shipment of the Collector's edition. Or they delayed the UK release.

Hm, so you can buy HL2 right away and DL it from Steam? Do they ship you a CD down the road or something?

Nope, but there won't be a need for it. You can backup your steam files easy enough so you don't have to redownload them :)

Meh - the point is I'm not gonna have my Collectors Edition tomorrow by the looks of it. I still going to trawl through every gaming shop in town to see if I can find one - but Sods Law quite clearly states that there won't be on within 100 miles of me.

Typical

True. The files on the retail copies are the same as the files you preload through steam.

If CS: Source is any indication on how HL2 will run, then it runs better on my system. At 1280x1024x32 I average 60fps while in D3 I could barely break 25-30fps at that resolution.

Even Vivendi UK do not know when the Collector's Edition will be available in the UK.

If you want it, you'll have to order it from Steam or America and wait for it to be delivered. If you want to play the game, then order it from Steam or buy it in the shops.

Ah ha - the good news is the nice people at game UK have email me to say that they will be shipping it on Thursday - yes the 9th of december - nearly a month late....Now if Asus would just get their ass in gear and send me my AN8-e Premium and if XFX would send me the 6800GT-e ive ordered then everthing can be good and happy....
But i must wait another far-too-long for my new machine - delaying hl2 more! NO!
