I was thinking of playing through Half Life 2 again with the Cinematic Mod but I have a 2005fpw and was wondering if I could do it with the native resolution of 1680x1050 since the file says you need a resolution of at least 1600x1200. Also is a 6800gt good enough to run it at high settings?

it sure does, the 6800gt may be a little low to run at the resoution with everything turned up and stay above 60fps

Thanks, I was worried about them saying that if it didnt support the resolution it would turn the quality way down.

its the same thing as HL2 was just better textures and crappier music. You can run any res you want with no issues.

In my experience the limiting factor with the cinematic mode is RAM. Less than 1 Gig will make you stutter like crazy for a while whenever you enter a new area until the swaping is over. Still pretty playable though; it's more an annoyance than anything.

And I agree with JBT about the crappier music.

is there a way to play the mod without the modded music?

Delete the music folder in the Cinimatic Mod directory?
It should then default to the original sounds.

Cinimatic Mod 3.0 Full (1.44GB's)
Cinimatic Mod 3.02 Patch

You need to get the 3.0 full first, then the 3.02 patch. Also if your 5.1 sound sounds like sh!t, theres a setting "snd_digital_surround "1", just uncomment it in the autoexec file in cfg folder. (i had that problem)

NOW, on to OP question. I think the 1600x1200 is the personal preference of FAKEFACTORY (the people/person who made it). He said that the readme isn't 100% accurate and that to him, 1600x1200 and over just "looked better". So you really can't go by the readme.

All your questions are answered in the comments on the two files I posted.

WTF, why does he make that one chick (I forget her name, the main character one) look fvcked up in the pictures?

And why (also in the screenshots) are all the womens nipples extremely noticable and pointy?

I would really like to try this, just without that main character chick being messed up.

yes of course it'll work. it only says 1600x1200 because you'll need a high resolution to be able to see the high resolution textures well. you COULD play it at 640x480, but it will look pretty much the same as the original half life 2, so theres really no point. 1680x1050 will be perfect.
