Half-life 1 Story?

thanks, was looking for a little more details though.

whats the deal with the 7 days war? I assume that was in HL1 (is only starting ravenholme in hl2)
 
the 7 hour war is something we know nothing about really. it took place between the two games. the story in a nutshell for HL1 is this:

You are a junior research scientist working at a decomissioned missile facility turned government research center. Upon arriving for work one day, you don your HEV suit and enter the lab and put some strange rock into a test chamber, which causes a "Resonance Cascade." All hell breaks loose some sort of portal opens, and aliens start pouring out through the complex. At this point, your goal is to survive, and help your fellow scientists along the way. You also encounter Barney, the security guard now and then who helps you out. Word spreads that the military is coming to rescue you, so everyone should head to the surface. When the arrive however, it turns out they aren't there as a rescue squad, but as a cleanup squad, and are there to silence the facility. So they start killing aliens and scientists alike, and begin hunting you. You fight through legions of soldiers and aliens and make your way to the "lambda complex" which is the main building in Black Mesa I guess, where the rest of the scientists are holed up. They have some theories as to closing the portal, but they need someone to go through to the other side, and that person is of course you. You go on through and find yourself in Xen, the alien dimension. You fight your way through this weird world and two giant monsters, first Gronark I think (basically a giant headcrab), and then Nihlanth, the boss of all the Xen creatures. After killing Nihlanth, the G-Man comes to congratulate you and "offers" you employment (he actually gives you the choice between working for him or death). So you step into a portal after him, and the game ends.

HL2 picks up exactly where HL1 left off, or at least for Gordon anyway. The next thing he must remember after stepping into the portal is "Rise and shine Mr. Freeman..." But he's been in some state for who knows how long (I'd say 10-15 years).

Additional facts from the expansion packs, Opposing Force and Blue Shift:

-A force of black-ops people is sent in AFTER the marines to silence the marines who were left after they pulled out, and left "the package" behind to really deal with black mesa
-"the package" = low yield nuclear weapon
-Barney, Dr. Vance and Kleiner escape via teleport to waiting vans at the end of blue shift, and I suppose start up the resistance movement when Dr. Breen and the Combine take over
-"the package" is indeed detonated after the important parties in question (Dr.s Breen, Freeman, Vance, and Kleiner; Barney, Gman, Cpl. Shephard) had vacated the facility
