half dozen different printer drivers... huh??

Hello. I spent some time trying to figure where to post this and finally decided on OS's, for the drivers angle.

I just bought a HP P3005 laser printer. Instead of just one driver per OS like I'm used to with cheaper printers, this beast comes with 6 variants and I don't know what's what. First of they have PCL 5, PCL 6, and Postscript drivers. AFter those three there are the three more options of 'UNIVERAL' PCL 5, PCL 6, and Postscript.

I'm using it in my home/home office with XP all around. I tried PCL 6 from the install CD on my main system. More recent and 'universal' PCL on another, and 'universal' PCL 6 on a third. I've tried printing from each and I still don't know what the difference are, though the test page from the PS driver looks different from the PCL driver.

Anyone knows this stuff and point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
D.
