Half.com rips off customers

I've sold over a half-dozen books in Half.com, but I didn't realize this until now. Half.com doesn't just charge commission from seller, but also rips off shipping cost from both buyer and seller. For example, they charge buyer $3.70 shipping for a hardcover book, but then only reimburse seller $2.78. Where the heck does that $0.92 go?! And the seller probably pay more than the reimbursement. Without doing any shipping and handling themselves, Half.com does not deserve taking any from shipping cost the buyer pays for and seller supposes to get.

Amazon pretty much does the same thing. Textbooks weigh a ton and the only pay for Media Mail ($3 or something). Media mail takes the longest time to reach its destination, so if you have classes, you're screwed.

However, Amazon and Half is way better than taking your books to the campus bookstore where they will give you $1 for your book and sell it back for $100. Rip-offs...

wtf are you trying to say? "doesn't just charge....but also"

I think you meant to say..... not only charges commissions but also rips off the sellers.

They charge a commission from the seller and they rip off the buyer on shipping fees?

I know some businesses don't run on sunshine, which they should.
Half.com's twin, eBay.com, would tell what exactly they are charging you for, without ripping you off sneakily like that.

I'm not sure about Amazon since I haven't used them yet. But according to their policy page "Amazon.com collects a shipping fee directly from the buyer at the time of purchase, passing on to you the amount listed below."
So they probably won't keep part of the shipping cost themselves while passing on to the seller.

If that's the case, I'll consider Amazon as a fair business partner.

Yes, they do. They charger buyer a shipping fee, but then gives seller a lower amount and call it a reimbursement like they're doing a favorite to the seller. They actually rips off the offset between what the buyer pays and the seller receives.
