Hi everyone,

I've been following this forum for a while, but this is my first post.

In the Daily Texan, which is the college newspaper for UT Austin, there's a coupon from Half.com for $15 off of a $50 purchase on books. I just bought my textbook with it and it works great. There's no expiration date on the ad, but it does say for a limited time only.

The catch:
1. It's for first-time buyers only.
2. The $50 can't include the shipping cost. It has to be for the actual cost of the item.

Hope this helps a few poor students or bookworms out there! :)

Note: I had to edit out the coupon code because of house rules, but I don't know how to let everyone know what it is. Can anyone tell me?

if you don't edit out the coupon code (not allowed here) the mods will drop a virtual
anvil on you :)

Word of warning if you are getting college textbooks. Be VERY VERY VERY sure of what you are getting.

I ordered 4 books from half.com and searched ONLY by ISBN number (each book has its very own unique ISBN number, even different editions of the same book) and I got 2 books that were different edition and had a different ISBN number than what I searched for. Try to find listings that say what edition is being sold.

One of the 2 that was wrong was even advertised as the edition I needed, and they said it was hardcover. I receieved a different edition in Paperback!

The one good thing is half.com re-imberses you for this, even the shipping to ship the items back to the seller. However, I still had to go to my local bookstore for a couple of books at the nice full inflated price :(

Good point on checking what it is you're actually ordering. Most sellers are pretty clear as to what editions they have, unless its some big book outfit using half.com as a medium for their sales.

I've had real good luck so far with both half.com and amazon.

One sour apple thus yet. I ordered a book almost 3 weeks ago, and still waiting on it. I'll wait til the date half.com says I have to wait before making a claim (30 days I think after the sale). THe seller claims to have shipped it, but no show here.

This is a $80 book. The seller would be an idiot not to spend the 50 cents extra to get delivery confirmation or insurance at the least.

Me personally, any book I sell over 20 or $30, i pay the extra for ups ground delivery, so that it is trackable, and I can make a claim if need be.

I guess with half.com, unlike ebay, the burden really falls on the seller, as the buyer is supplying a cc to half.com rather than paypal, and a chargeback is possible.
