hal.dll missing after installing Windows :(

I setup Bootcamp, restart my laptop and go into Windows installation. I delete the FAT32 partition, and choose NTFS.

Once Windows installs the files, it reboots (15 seconds until rebooting)

The OS goes to a black screen and says that hal.dll is missing or corrupt. I have tried this twice! Once with a SP2 XP disc and another with a SP3 disc.

Any ideas???

Hmm.. I haven't had that issue.. Don't have a bootcamp partition at the moment, but it's always worked just like a regular Windows install when I've done it in the past. You might want to see if the Windows forum has any ideas.

Are these discs burned? I would get that error with corrupted ISO's before...sometimes Microsoft Transfer Manager screws up and I would have to redownload from MSDN.

These discs have worked before.... but I've installed Windows only on my Macbook. That's when it worked fine. This time I want to dual boot.

From what I read it's due to the bootlog not being able to find the Windows Partition. I guess I need to run a utility.

Found the solution.

1. Setup Boot Camp with the respective amount of space you want.
2. Restart with Windows XP in the drive.
3. At the installation screen press R for repair.
4. type in format C: /Q /fs:ntfs
5. Restart and load Windows installation again
6. Install it on the C drive

you dont even have to do that lol. if you press enter on the partion/format section you can format (quick) NTFS on a fat 32 drive.

yea, I think that the problem was that you deleted the partitioned it instead of just formatting the FAT32 partition.
