$14 for a haircut.

usually, 1/2 the $ goes to the shop, other half goes to the hair stylist.

$7 for 15 min work. plus $3 tip = $10 for 15 min = $40/hr?! :Q

And haircuts don't always take 15 minutes. My girlfriends last haircut(granted more like $35) took well over an hour

1. They aren't always busy.
2. They would have to exclusivly cut mens hair if they wanted to keep times that short.
3. Some people don't tip at all...

Edit: They don't get insurance either.

Takes my hair person 30 minutes to cut my hair. $15 + $5 tip. Although I think I'm one of her few male customers.

Dude, my ex gf pulled in some serious change doing hair, and one of my oldest best friends owns the salon she works at.

A $500 day was not abnormal for her. she did a lot of color and that's where the money is.

Of course on the mens haircuts it didn't hurt that she was hot and got good tips as a result. At first that bothered me, but when I realized she was using that money to pay for most of our dates, dinners, new toys, etc....well lets just say I learned to control my jealousy a bit more ;)

Please tell me you're tipping that much because she's hot. For a $15 haircut, I usually tip $1 and sometimes $2.

Is that $500 per day or per week?

weekdays its not unusual for salons to get 2-3 customers in a 9 hour day.

my aunt and uncle own a salon downtown toronto right by the university of toronto so there are a lot of people passin every day too.

my sister cuts hair in a shop in a mall. she doesn't make much, plus they have to do a certain amount of business before they can get benefits and then if they go below, they lose it. at least according to her anyway. she tends to exaggerate things sometimes though.

I've been going to the same barber for 15 years now. He always gets $15 + $5.

My sister inlaw owns a spa/salon and yeah the haircuts are expensive, but the stylists also pay 500 a month booth rent in her shop, and this is in Arkansas, I couldn't imagine in a big city what it would cost.

I know that my barber was doin' OK.

He owned the little shop, only guy who worked there. He took vacations all the time to Alaska, other countries, etc. Recently retired.

Now he has a younger guy working for him. It's all profit when you own your own shop...

Yeah, it's really not that simple :p They're not always booked up full, they usually pay for their seat in the salon, some salons require the stylists to buy their own product even if it's at a discount. 15 minutes is a damn fast haircut too, lol...makes me think of the vacuum attachments. I just went to the salon today, took an hour and cost me $35 with tip and discount. :D
