Haircuts

I keep a fairly simply hairstyle and always just go to the cheap haircutting places to get my hair done. I don't know which are national vs. local, but typically places like Borics, Supercuts, Sport Cuts. All are in the range of about $12 or $13 for a basic cut. I'm usually fairly pleased with the results, but occasionally there will be a spot they miss, or they might not do it exactly the way I usually get it done. After a few weeks it starts too look kind of sloppy though.

So I was talking to my female friend, who thinks I'm a total cheapass for going to such a cheap place to get my haircut and insists its well worth the money to go to a slightly more upscale salon to get it done. By slightly more upscale she's talking like $30 or so for a men's haircut. Where you have a regular person that always has your hair done, etc. It seems kind of frivilous to me, like my hair isn't that complicated, how much better can a $30 cut be than a $12 cut?

Then there is a barber, but I've gotten barber cuts a couple times in the past, but didn't really like the results. I felt it made me look kind of nerdy and too business-like and older or something. Although maybe it was just a couple of bad barbers.

So just curious. Whats people opinion - where do you prefer to get your hair done and why? Are $30 mens cuts really worth it?

I go to a professional salon - 15 bucks is all it costs me 🙂 The same guy cuts my hair every third Saturday.

depens on your hair style i suppose, but i go to supercuts ... im in and out in 10 minutes but looks good enough for mne

I've been going to Hair Cuttery ($13 + $5 tip), which is OK depending on the stylist. My hair is medium short and not that difficult to cut (IMO), but it looks bad if it's cut too short. I've learned that you really have to specify how you want it cut using numbers, otherwise they tend to give you a shaved sheep look.

I look for the cheapest place possible, although my hair is buzzed very short (no guards). I accidently went to a black barbershop once, but was very pleased with the result. The guy did an excellent job with the edge up. I'll probaly go back again. 🙂

$5 tip?

so, how low cut is her blouse? 😀

Modern Barbershop, blacksburg, VA.
8$ for a haircut. For those of you who pay 30$ for haircuts....you know hair grows back right?

I recently went to the absolute best place in town to have them pick out a style for my hair and give me a haircut. It looked exactly like the haircut I get from SuperCuts. The best haircuts I get are done by a local barber shop. And, it's usually slightly cheaper than a chain shop.

Buzz cut every 6 months or so for me 🙂
$10
Im a cheap bastard, its hair and Im not out to impress and damn soul with looks. You like me for me as a person or can piss off 😀

No way I would ever pay $30 for a haircut. Nor would I go to the cheap salons like Supercuts - I have had too many bad haircuts from bored community college rejects that way. I go to the same barber and she does a decent job - it's only hair.

$11+$3 tip at Great Clips and they do a fine job.

Edit: Oh, and I get my hair cut about every two years 🙂

I usually go to barber shops ~$12. My girlfriend took me to the upscale salon she goes to on Newbury St. in Boston, for $50. My hair is pretty basic, the cut was slightly better at the upscale salon, but not $40 better. The only difference from the cheap cut was that they used a razor to add texture to my hair and it included a wash. I felt really awkward the whole time I was there though. The first thing they did was direct me to the changing room, to take off my button down shirt and put on a smock - which I apparently put on backwards. After a week or so I couldn't tell the difference between the two cuts.

My hair grows out better when I spend a little more. At supercuts or whatever, it looks OK at first but then like crap after a couple weeks or so. The more expensive places must do some kind of layering or even it out better or whatever. Either way, I don't have to go as often when it's done right hence it probably works out to only being a little more.

I like to keep my hair short; it's easy to manage and takes less time to perfect in the morning. I go to a nice place on campus, his name's Richard, he's been here forever. Nice little buzz cut costs me $6.

My dad owns his own barber shop and has been a barber for 30 years or so. I've never paid for a haircut in my life 😛

Oh and I think he charges $12, damn good deal.

I go to a local in home place, she is about 42 years old with big fake YOUKNOWWHATS (DD). It cost me 10$ + 5$ tip for haircut and hair wash.

Best damn place ever!!!

😀😀

Wife has learned to cut my hair since I needed one every two weeks, little more or less, it was adding up quick at the BX.
