Hair loss

I'm starting to see a major receding hairline on my head. :( It's starting to form that "horseshoe" pattern.

My fears have been confirmed by my wife, barber, parents, and friends. They all think I'm overreacting a bit. But it does bother me.

I've always had a good head of hair, so needless to say it's bothering me a lot. (Women have always loved my hair.)

Being 35, I guess it's just another sign of aging.

Sure aint fun seeing it happen though.

I kind of like the receding hairline look on guys. I know I am not the only one!

The best advice I can give is the same advice I give myself about aging.

Youth and superficial beauty are totally overrated. In the end, no one is going to care how beautiful or handsome you were. Consider Cleopatra... she was known for her charm and intelligence--- she was NOT a great beauty.

Cultivate a sense of peace and joy... and when people look at you, that is what they will be inspired by.

<---not afraid to age

For me it started around the age of 22, it has never bothered me at all...

I recently shaved my head when i lost a bet, felt kind of strange but i was surprised how attractive many women found it... since then, i never let it get beyond 3-5mm

Don't worry about it, it's a natural part of the male aging process, nothing more...

I just like how women feel the need to rub my head when I shave it :p

It started for me in high school, so don't feel too bad. At least you have a wife. For those of use who are gonna be half-bald and looking for a future woman to be with, it's even harder. ;):(

When they say "thinning hair" are they talking about the hair shaft itself? Cause some of the hairs I find in my hands after shampooing are not as fat as they used to be.

Propecia works in 83% or so of the people in slowing down or completely stopping hair loss. You should go to a dermatologist and get a prescription. You should know that most dermatologist don't know anything about hairloss and you can study it for 5 minutes on the Internet and know more than them. You should realize that if you go on Propecia you will suffer from a "Propecia shed" where the hair that is affected will all be shoved out at the same time. So if you normally shed 50 hairs a day, you could be shedding 150 hairs a day. It's supposed to be freaky and a severe mental hit at the time, but it's a good thing because it means the medication is working and that the hair will regrow healthier in place of the ones that were shed.

You can use Rogaine, too, but I think most people consider it a hair growth stimulant, but it can stop hairloss.

A new drug is coming out, too. It's supposedly supposed to work very well. I think it's coming out maybe at the end of the year or early next year. Dutasteride or something like that.

Also realize that it's a lot worse to you than it does look to others!

When most people say their hair is thinning, they mean where there should be 10 hairs in an area, they have 7, etc. Hair falls out at a faster rate than growing for them.

I think when you suffer from hair loss the hair does become thinner and thinner and eventually loses pigment. There's a shampoo called Nizoral (it's an anti-dandruff shampoo) that a lot of people use. It's been shown to make the hair shaft thicker. Just don't use it everyday, just 3 times a week.

BTW, I wouldn't worry about it too much. You usually know if you're losing hair or not.

Yah, it seriously, seriously sucks.

I'm 22 and have lost quite a bit of hair. I wish to hell there was something I could do about it that wouldn't result in taking drugs that may have serious consequences many years later (Propecia -- who knows what will happen?).

Most seem to think it's not a big deal, but to any man, it's a seriously big deal. When I started losing, I had absconded from certain social situations as a direct result of the loss.

It seems the only "cure" is to simply acquiesce.

it's not a big deal to every guy.

for years i've had the thickest hair of anyone i know. and for many of those years it was long and curly. absolutely beautimus! but last fall i realized that it is leaving me. it's getting much more thin on the top and receding from the front and sides. some how i figured this would happen. no one knew if the genetics ran in the family or not(my mom's dad died at 33 and so did his mom's grandad). some how i just figured my awesome hair as a lease. it's cool. a new phase with new experiences to go with it.

i probably will just start shaving my head w/ a razor after i lose a bunch. it will be a fun journey

Propecia is approved by the FDA. Only propecia and rogaine are FDA approved for hairloss. I guess you can worry about every drug if you have to take one about what it can do to you in the future. The ingredient in Propecia is used in some prostate drug, so Propecia users wouldn't be the only ones affected. The ingredients in Propecia and rogaine were accidentally discovered while developing other drugs.

I think that the genetics thing is a myth. It can happen in anyone, skip generations, etc. If you just started, you should start some thing quickly if you want to keep what you have. Time is the most important factor.

I've got a balding spot on the back top of my head. The hair does not make the man. I could care less. Most women don't care either, from what I understand. Some of the women I do know, say that men who go against nature and get a toupe' is a major turnoff. ;)

Are you taking anything like rogaine? I've read that some people experience hair growth elsewhere on the body too as a side effect :)

Nope. I think its an affliction called Ed-Asneritis :Q This may include nose hairs and unibrow.
