Hopefully someone knows about this... As embrassing as this is to most men, I don't mind talking about myself going bold behind the safety of my internet connection :p Anyways, I am losing a lot of hair on the front-sides... I don't know whether its a temporary thing or I'll go completely bald but I am curious about hair implants? Do they work well? Hair that they implant functions just like normal hair, right? Does it hurt for a long time afterwards? What about losing the new hair, does that happen often?

Thanks :p

I've heard it's come a long, long way, but it's still not without its risks. They remove a little from the back of your head - leaving a small scar - and they transplant it to the balding areas. The hair on the top of your head is different than the hair on the side of your head; the hair on the side is not susceptible to the chemicals in your scalp that cause balding.

The scar, however, may make "retreating" from a botched job very difficult... a typical retreat being "shave the noggin".

It's also pretty expensive from what I gather. A decent job could run $7,500 - $15,000.

Just curious as to why any man would spend good money on hair implants? Is going bald going to cost you your job, girlfriend or liberty?

Because going bald can wreck havoc on your self image... especially if you start going bald at a young age. It's even been tied to health problems (depression, blood pressure, etc).

I was noticeably going bald around 20. It was very, very traumatic. I woke up one day and said "fsck it" and just shaved it. Luckily I have a great "bald" head and chicks dig it. Other guys aren't as fortunate.

I must say, shaving it was rather liberating.

Hair transplants are really only effective on people who have lost all of the hair on top of their heads. Otherwise if you transplant hair, and your hairline keeps moving back, you'll have patches of hair missing which doesn't look very good. The other candidates would be people whos hair loss has stabilized for many years. For the OP the best option would be to use Propecia and Minoxidil to reduce hair loss. It's not magic pill but it's the only thing that has been shown to do anything.
