www.haiku-os.org released the newest version a few months ago. release 1 Alpha 2. this OS is still Alpha , but is becoming more useable with more applications by the day.

It does some amazing things, many of the amazing things the original BeOS did 12 years ago and a few new tricks. One of those is more modern hardware support for newer machines.

Please if you want alternatives to windows and Linux start supprting and using Open source Operating systems like Haiku.

Start petitioning Application developers, hardware developers etc to support more open source systems. We all have a stake in this.

for the programmers among you Haiku is currently seeking and needing devlopers to continue the project and to work towards a final Release #1.

They need your help, they want your help, if you can't code, donate money, if you don't have money call hardware manufacturers and work with them to devloper drivers.

Open source is nothing if the user base does not rise up and start demanding that we want some real choices.

If you want you can download the Haiku Os as a ISO image and run it like a linux distrobution as a live CD. See if your hardware works.

If it doesn't post back here or register on the bug tracker and make a ticket. As of right now Haku works on most systems but lacks 3d hardware acceleration, something they cannot implement without substantiall assistance from Nvidia,Intel and ATI.

get invovled and help a great Operating system become a Greater operating system with applications and hardware support.

www.haiku-os.org
www.haiku-files.org nightly images compiled once dialy available in a variety of formats.
www.dev.haiku.org.org for bug tickets.
www.haikuware.com for applications.

Haiku needs users and it needs your support. It already has a quickly developing openlGL and openCl and now a openAl projects which are progressing.
but more developers are needed.

Haiku also has a full IDE suite of tools in several flavors. Also unlike Linux it is a feature complete Operating system requiring nothing more then downloading it.

the Reason I put this here is becuase this is one of the bussiest Operating system tech sections on the net. Help get the word out.

Haiku and the Operating systems like it are the the Operating systems we have always wanted.

Light fast and Powerful

If you decide to try Haiku and your getting stuck. I will monitor this thread and offer any and all help in getting it running.

Right now I'd suggest starting with this link right here.

Haiku R1A2.

http://www.haiku-os.org/get-haiku

this is a fiarly feature complete image. anyboots can be written to USB thumb drives and Booted, VMware images are fiarly self explanatory, ISO images can be bruned with Nero etc and live booted.

Right now user documentation is poor so if you have questions or get stuck. I will help you, via PM or just make a post here.

They want your support.

More info on Beos successor OS's here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YellowTAB

this is not yellow tab or zeta, this is a scratch written operating system with all new code it is based highly on the BE api and the NEWOS kernel written by a few former BE employees. it really is its won thing.

burn a anyboot to usb drive or iso and run live cd mode and take it for a spin. you'll find windows infuriating to use afterwards.:)

wow I can't Imagine why anyone would ?

Can windows do this ??? How about Linux ? without dropping audio or useresponsiveness and still get a big job done ?

I think not.

Ummm. Yes, they can. What does Haiku offer that Linux doesn't? Answer, Nothing.

I'm glad you are excited about new tech, but come one, the shillyness of these posts are annoyingly stupid. I stop listening after "Windows 4 the Sucks!" and "Linux 3 the sukz!". The fact of the matter is, it isn't a crime to learn something from two stable OSes, and writing them off as "sucky" is just plain stupid.

Yea, I'd bet a small amount of money they could these days. The old BeOS teapots on a dual PII demo seemed more impressive to me. You might as well rename it to BenchmarkOS because that's about all it's good for right now.
